Body Weight Workouts

Body weight workouts are very useful, because besides your body, which you carry around all the time, you don't need any equipment, weights or a membership! Because of this you are not bound to location and time. You can do a bodyweight workout right now in your office, hotel room, in a park... You name it!

So then... why do people still go to the gym?
Well because it's your body, you are limited in your choice of resistance, the only way to add more resistance is to gain weight... I'm guessing that counter-productive.

But there are still ways to make body weight workouts more effective and harder. For instance you could put on a backpack while doing the exercises and fill it with books, or your laptop.
Another way is by slowing the motion down, big time! Instead of doing a repetition in a second, take 10 seconds to do them. That kind of control takes a lot out of your muscles, causing them to become stronger.

Still to easy? Try doing the exercises with just one arm or leg. Yup, that means push-ups on one arm and one-legged squats.

If you're going for speed, try plyometric variations of the exercises. For example, when doing a push up, push up as hard as possible, causing your hands to come of the ground, quickly clap your hands and put them back on the ground. Another example are jump-squats.

And the final option, do a higher amount of reps. Where you would do 12 reps with weight now do 20 or even 30.

So are you ready to start your body weight workouts?
