Dumbbell workouts are ideal to do at home, since they can be used to train almost every muscle in your body, they don't take up much space and you can easily vary the weight on one set. Especially if you have something like a power block.
But it's more than that, dumbell workouts are actually a lot better than a workout on machines. There are five simple reason for that
Dumbbells work you targeted muscle intensely and the stabilizer muscles that are surrounding that muscle. Making you actually stronger and able to have more control over the weight. Where machines aren't that great at targeting the actual muscle you want to train and the stabilizer isn't trained at all, All because your motion is predefined and therefor unnatural .
It doesn't matter whether you just started to work out or if you're a veteran at the gym, dumbbell workout always work. Same goes for posture and age dumbbells will always do the trick. Where machines are designed for the measurement of an 'average' person, which clearly does not exist.
When doing a dumbbell workout you are the one who is fully in control of the motion, you decide where the dumbbells are going and which path they follow to get there. Not some machine which forces your joint, muscles and tendons in an unnatural motion and with that creating potential problems
Dumbbell workout train your body isolaterally, this means your left
side is isolated from your right side, this avoids imbalance in your
body. When using a machine you automatically use your stronger more than
you weaker side, worsening the imbalance. There is no cheating with dumbbells
How many exercises can you do on one machine? Just one, okay if you
would get one of those gyms sold on TV you will get about 20, which is
okay. But definitely not enough to train your body adequately. With a
set of dumbbells you can pick from more than 250 exercises! Basically
there is nothing you can not do with dumbbells
