High Intensity Interval Training

If you want to work on your endurance, High Intensity Interval Training is they way to go! It's commonly used by elite athlete's. But don't worry everyone can use it. And get great results!

What is High Intensity Interval Training?

Actually it's quite simple. A High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) is basically alternating bursts of intense activity with either lighter activity or rest. There are a lot of different interval training workouts, designed for different purposes, bodies and sports.

How it works

Your body works with two system powering your muscles. The aerobic and the anaerobic system. Aerobic means it works by using oxygen to release energy. However for short burst of activity your muscles use the anaerobic system, getting energy directly stored in the muscle fibers. This is a lot quicker, but is very limited and has lactic acid as a by-product. This causes your muscles to 'burn'. During the low activity or rest period, your heart and lungs work together to break down the lactic acid and restoring energy levels, by using oxygen to utilize stored carbohydrates.

How can i benefit from High Intensity Interval Training?

Because the body is pushed to transport oxygen in a high rate, lung-capacity will grow. Also for transport the body will build new capillaries, your heart is strengthened and your muscles will develop a higher tolerance for lactic acid build-up. This means your endurance will grow significantly. Along with that you will burn a lot of calories in doing a interval routine workout. Intervals are also a way to make your current cardio routines less boring and challenging. Another plus point is that you won't need any equipment.
